Apple Intelligence is Useless

The rushed launch of Apple Intelligence was a debacle, reminding Apple it should focus on readiness rather than quickly appeasing shareholders.

Apple is at its best when it listens to its customers. It’s at its worst when it listens to its shareholders. In recent months that divergence couldn’t be more clear with the disastrous rollout of Apple Intelligence, the company’s attempt at AI-ifying Siri.

AI is everywhere, whether we like it or not. Every company is shoving it into the products it produces. The training of these systems are based on stolen data scraped off the internet and the ecological cost of that training is so high, Microsoft is trying to get a nuclear power plant re-opened. We are literally attempting to boil the oceans and consume valuable water for machines all in an attempt to build confident bullshit machines.

I was due for an upgrade on my at-the-time iPhone, so even before WWDC and the iPhone 16 announcement, there was little question if I was going to jump to a new phone. My decision to buy was not predicated on Apple Intelligence, but more on other features like an always-on screen, higher refresh rate, and the cameras. For me, Apple Intelligence was a bonus add-on.
