Siri Hits The Gym
Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference keynote on Monday was filled with a lot of updates and news. It is a June tradition for many years now that Apple gives a glimpse of what is to come for every piece of hardware it sells. And, of course, AI played a big part of the announcement.
Before that, we got a breakneck rundown of each platform and what is to come. The iPad disappointedly received nothing that will take advantage of the insanely-powerful M4-powered version of the device that it announced last month. I was so hopeful we would get software that unleashes the iPad’s potential and instead it’s still relegated to whatever muddled position Apple thinks suits it best.
On the plus side we’re finally getting emoji as Tapback reactions in messages, the ability to schedule a message to send later, and OMG we also finally get rest days on the Apple Watch (something I’ve been hoping for for over five years).
But then we get to the real announcement: AI. It’s being put into everything and I haven’t liked how it is continuously billed as “the next big thing” when it’s also telling people to put glue on their pizza and eat rocks. Right out the gate, Apple said it is calling this “Apple Intelligence” and didn’t utter the phrase “AI” too often during the event. With a very deep dive into how the company is going to incorporate AI, I was surprised at what it all came…
